
It’s a busy week in West Islip, highlighted by Thursday's major announcement coming from the BOE regarding school closings, high school performances and library workshops.

Tuesday, Jan. 10

The WI Library is hosting a chess workshop presented by the LI Chess Nuts. Students in grades 1-6 can test their skills against a variety of experienced players (5-6 p.m., $20 for four classes).
Bariatric Surgery Support Group: Information and support for patients pre- and post-surgery. Meeting takes place at Good Samaritan hospital's Patio Café. (2 p.m.)

Wednesday, Jan. 11
West Islip High School students will host One-Act Plays begininng at 7:30 p.m. inside the auditorium.
Good Sam is also hosting a New Mothers’ Support Group (noon-1:30 p.m.). Cost for five 90 minute sessions is $50.
Thursday, January 12
The day has finally arrived where the WI Board of Education will announce which will close.
Udall Middle School is holding their National Geographic Geography Bee at 2:30 p.m.
Good Samaritan is hosting a free community lecture: “What Did You Say? Causes, Symptoms and Strategies for Coping with Hearing Loss." Find out what causes hearing loss, and learn about new hearing aid options (6 p.m., Patio Cafe).
Friday, Jan. 13.
Southside Hosptial in Bay Shore is hosting a blood drive from 6:30 a.m.-7 p.m. inside the board rooms. For more information, email Vincent at vcunningh1@nshs.edu
Saturday, Jan. 14.
The WI Library is hosting a very useful course for all the computer impaired. They'll run an intro course on computer basics: from turning your machine on, surfing the Inernet, to Windows basics. The course fee is $5 (10 a.m.-noon).
