Week in Review: Stolen Car Found, School Bus Involved in Crash

Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced Monday that a Brentwood man has been sentenced to five to 15 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to driving drunk and killing two men, including West Islip's Larry Scuteri, in an April 2011 crash on the Wantagh State Parkway.

Oscar Ramirez, 30, to aggravated vehicular homicide, two counts of manslaughter in the second degree and driving while intoxicated. He was sentenced by Judge William Donnino.

A Central Islip woman was arrested on July 28 after police discovered her in a disabled stolen vehicle on Montauk Highway in Southampton, 27east.com reports.

The vehicle, a black 2008 Acura MDX, belongs to a West Islip resident and was reported stolen to the Third Precinct the same day.

A sedan rear-ended the back of a school bus north of the railroad tracks on Higbie Lane just before noon Thursday.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

The Suffolk County Department of Health Services (SCDHS) has reported two more positive samples of West Nile virus in West Islip.

The Suffolk County Department of Public Works released more findings from its Southwest Sewer District Expansion Feasability Study, including the revelation the project could cost taxpayers over $2 billion without any grants or outside funding. The expansion of the sewer district would affect areas including West Islip, North Babylon, West Babylon, and Wyandanch.
