
10 Good Reasons Not to Vote for Roach or Hockley

As a White Plains homeowner-property taxpayer for some 30 years, a lifelong registered Democrat, former bar president, co-founder and president of the national, nonprofit, nonpartisan citizens’ organization Center for Judicial Accountability, Inc. (CJA), working, pro bono, to advance the cause of justice, I will not be voting for Tom Roach, Acting Mayor, former Common Council president and Council member for nine years. Neither will I vote for previous incumbent Common Councilman Glenn Hockley because:

1. Roach lacks integrity: Aided by the utterly undemocratic White Plains City Democratic Committee, which is financing his campaign and paying for his advertising, Roach has seized the benefit of a Special Election held on shortest possible notice, instead of the maximum, which would have given the electorate until April 15th. That is unconscionable, indecent, and simply unacceptable, as a matter of principle, for all who consider themselves true democrats, with a small “d”. The election is obviously being steamrollered to prevent a fair and balanced campaign from taking place by depriving our citizenry of vital information they need before casting their most precious votes. This includes, the proposed City budget for the next fiscal year, not to be released until April 4th, the Monday after the Special Election, including the new budget, which suggests Roach is fearful of “taxpayer-rage” repercussions.
