Well, we at the Youth Bureau have received a Challenge Grant in support of the Mayor' s 2011 Summer Employment Campaign. A private foundation has pledged to meet and match every dollar raised up to $25,000 for our 2011 Summer Employment Program.
We have until June 30, 2011 to raise up to $25,000. In order to do this we need your support. To date, we have secured $7,500 in pledges from local businesses and residents which doubles to $15,000 in matching funds. Our goal is to raise the remaining $17,500 to reach our full match opportunity of $50,000.

This summer, White Plains youth are faced with a shortage of summer jobs due to a reduction in funding. Click for more on that story.
Last year, 300 youth worked in summer jobs through our Youth Bureau's Summer Employment Program.
A summer job is important to our youth as a means to buy school clothes, purchase school supplies, pay college tuition, and help families through these tough economic times.
The cost to hire one youth is $1500 for six weeks, your contribution will be matched 100% and assist in placing a young person in our summer jobs program.
