White Plains Middle School eighth grader Joshua Colas has been named to the 2011 All-American Chess Team. This is the second consecutive year that he has been named to the team, and he will represent the United States at the 2011 World Youth Chess Championships in Rio DeJaneiro, Brazil, next month. In 2010 year he participated on Team USA in the same competition in Greece.

Last December Joshua became a certified Chess Master, the youngest African-American in U.S. history to achieve that honor. To date, he has won four national championships, including last year’s 7th Grade National Chess Championships in Orlando, Florida.
