Event Details

Grace Episcopal Church, 33 Church St, White Plains, NY, 10601

Hailey McAvoy, soprano and Bethany Pietroniro, piano offer achingly beautiful songs of Maurice Ravel, Alban Berg, and Errolyn Wallen, the exciting Belize born British composer who was recently appointed Master of the King’s Music by King Charles III.

Hailey McAvoy is a versatile performer of opera, song, and concert. McAvoy’s recent operatic performances include appearing as Mem in the world premiere of Paola Prestini’s Sensorium Ex at the Common Senses Festival in Omaha, NE, and as Julia Child in Lee Hoiby’s Bon Appetit with Opera Praktikos. Equally active as a concert performer, McAvoy has recently made her Greene Space recital debut in a concert broadcast to WQXR with pianist Alison d’Amato. She has also appeared as guest soloist in Ravel’s Shéhérazade with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and as a soloist at Opera Ithaca in performance of Molly Joyce’s YouSaidHeSaidSheSaid. In addition to her work in opera and concert, McAvoy is writing a full-length concert work, Wholly Unwinding, which explores her experiences with cerebral palsy and rediscovering her own sense of embodiment and empowerment through the Alexander Technique.

Hudson Valley-based pianist Bethany Pietroniro brings honed musicianship and a vibrant collaborative spirit to vocal and instrumental chamber music. Recent performances include the world premiere of Bebop Riddle II for cello and piano by American composer Augusta Read Thomas at the Tanglewood Festival of Contemporary Music, a concert of chamber music presented at the University of Alabama with her cousin, violist Jake Pietroniro, and appearances with Spiral Songs, a series of immersive musical gatherings that curate classical and folk songs reflecting the connection between our lives and cycles of the earth. A devotee of song in many genres, Bethany frequently collaborates with classical vocalist colleagues, supporting the creation of programs that seek to expand the traditional recital experience and speak to the here-and-now. Alongside her musical work, Bethany has a passion for problem solving and daylights as a software engineer.

This concert is made possible, in part, with the generous support of Ridgeway Garden Center.
