Car Break-Ins Reported in Several Locations

There have been four vehicle incidents this week, including three on Monday night, police say.

Four vehicles were either damaged or broken into this week in a string of incidents police believe are possibly related.

There was little taken in any of the incidents, though scratches to a Mercedes-Benz parked on Stewart Place possibly resulted in thousands of dollars in damage.

All of the incidents were reported earlier this week, three of them happened sometime Monday night. White Plains Police Detective Lt. Eric Fischer said given the time and proximity of the incidents, they are probably related.

"We are looking at it like that," he said. "People usually hit a couple of vehicles."

The first incident was discovered Monday morning when the operator of a company car parked at 11 Mitchell Place discovered a 1997 Chevy had sustained damage to the steering wheel. Contents from the glove box were also thrown around the floor.

The vehicle had been left unlocked in the lot over the weekend.

Three incidents were reported Tuesday morning and believed to have taken place sometime Monday night.

Scratches were discovered on the Mercedes early Monday. The owner told police damage could exceed $1,000. The owner of a BMW parked on New Street discovered a window shattered by a large stone at about 8:37 a.m. Tuesday. Someone had rummaged through the vehicle's center console, but nothing was taken, according to reports.

The owner of a 1994 Honda Accord parked at 100 Martine Ave. also discovered a broken rear window Tuesday morning. The owner of that vehicle also reported nothing was taken.

Fischer said break-ins aren't unusual this time of year, and that most of the incidents result in little to nothing being taken.

"Little stuff," he said. "Usually when people break into cars that's all they are looking for anyway."

Police have no suspects in any of the break-ins at this time.
