Fourth Annual Youth Bureau Mother-Son Dance

The White Plains Youth Bureau will hold the fourth annual Mother- Son Dance at the Mapleton, a local historic landmark on the campus, on Friday, May 11 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Mapleton, which was built in 1857, once served as a private residence.  The graceful archways, wooden floors and fireplaces will give the Mother-Son dance a touch of elegance that will help make the evening special for the attendees.

Caperberry Events will cater the affair and provide a gourmet meal that will accompany the finger-popping and hip-shaking music produced by DJ Lord Juddah.

The Youth Bureau held its first Mother-Son dance in the Eastview School gymnasium in 2008.  Youth Bureau Executive Director Frank Williams said, “The goal of the dance then is still the same today: To provide women with another opportunity to bond with the young males who have a special place in their hearts.”

If a mother is not able to attend the dance, a grandmother, godmother, aunt or any adult female may stand in.

“We call it a Mother-Son dance, but it is not limited to women who are mothers.  We encourage all women who play a special role in the life of a young man to come to the dance, celebrate and
be recognized by the community for the nurturing they provide,” said Director Williams.
