Galleria Slasher Receives Prison Sentence
Police said the victim needed 29 stitches to close the 5-inch wound to his neck.
WHITE PLAINS, NY — A Bronx resident will be going to prison for slashing a man's neck outside the White Plains Galleria.
Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah said Edwin Hernandez, 44, of Bronx, was sentenced Friday, as a second felony offender, to seven years in state prison and five years post-release supervision.
Prosecutors said, around 10:30 a.m. Aug. 18, 2019, Hernandez approached the victim, who was a stranger, outside the entrance of the White Plains Galleria on Main Street in White Plains.

He repeatedly asked the man to share his cigarette.
When the victim refused, Hernandez slashed the base of the man's neck with a sharp object and walked away.

The victim, who was bleeding, walked into the Galleria and was attended to by employees who called the police.
He was taken to White Plains Hospital where he received 29 stitches to close the approximately 5-inch laceration to his neck.
White Plains police arrested Hernandez shortly after the incident on South Lexington Avenue in White Plains.
He pleaded guilty in May to second-degree assault, a felony, in Westchester County Court.
