Joe the Ice Cream Man is Alive and Well

The legendary Joe Villardi squashes rumors about his death.

 

spent his morning taking phone calls, explaining that he is not dead, but very much alive.

“That’s all I’m doing, since 7 o’clock this morning,” said Villardi, a Pelham resident. “People are calling me all worried. I know a lot of people, I’ve been in the business for 66 years—I have a lot of friends.”

Villardi—also known as "Joe the Ice Cream Man" or "Good Humor Joe"—said he even got a call from The City of White Plains, and has no idea how the rumors were started.

“I am alive, and I have my two feet on the ground,” said Villardi, who will start his ice cream route back up in April.

A Facebook page dedicated to Villardi, who claims to be 39+, started blowing up about 12 hours ago with fans wishing their beloved ice cream man to rest in peace. Villardi said he was touched by everyone’s concern and love for him, but wishes that people would stop starting hurtful rumors.
