Man Convicted of '11 Assault at WP Train Station

A Mt. Vernon man faces 25 years to life in state prison after being convicted of two felony assault charges stemming from an incident at the White Plains Train Station 11 months ago.

A jury has convicted Robert France, 50, of felony counts of assault in the first and second degree. According to his indictment, France beat a male victim with a large metal trash can at the Metro-North Train Station after a dispute over a cell phone. The incident took place at about 2:50 a.m. on April 12, 2011.

The victim sustained injuries including a broken leg—which required medical screws to be inserted—multiple stitches on his left hand and several facial fractures. He was transported to White Plains Hospital and later transferred to Westchester Medical Center to treat his injuries.

MTA Police responded and arrested France, of 229 S. 7th Avenue. France was initially arraigned on nine felony counts and remanded to Westchester County Jail.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 26, when France will face a maximum sentence of 25 years.
