Mastercard Gets 'Credit' For Adopting Cranberry Lake Preserve
A partnership with the Westchester Parks Foundation is proving "priceless" for both visitors and the employees volunteering their time.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — A Westchester County park is getting spiffed up thanks to a partnership between Westchester Parks Foundation and one of the county's most recognizable companies.

Mastercard is teaming up with the Westchester Parks Foundation to "adopt" Cranberry Lake Preserve, a 190-acre park located on Old Orchard Street, between North White Plains and West Harrison.
Volunteers took part in their first community service day on August 22, launching a graffiti mitigation initiative on the quarry using a painting technique that restores the natural look of the rock. Mastercard volunteers from their Purchase office will continue to visit the preserve throughout 2024 and plan to maintain and beautify the park's most popular areas by protecting native plants and removing invasive species such as wisteria floribunda and rosa multiflora, according to the foundation.

The adopt-a-park program is run by the Westchester Parks Foundation and public and corporate involvement in the maintenance, improvement, and support of the more than 50 parks in the Westchester County Park system.
In adopting a park, a group commits to enhance and maintain a designated park within the county park system through clean-up efforts, trail maintenance, tree plantings, weeding, and any other approved projects which would enhance the beauty of the park. The adopter (Mastercard, in this case) promises to complete at least 120 hours of service per year in their adopted park.
