Mayor’s Mother-in-Law Takes Stand
White Plains Mayor Adam Bradley's mother-in-law takes the stand Monday on the fourth day of the domestic violence trial against him.

Mayor Adam Bradley's mother-in-law Kane Machinaga testified Monday that Bradley was standing outside of the bathroom when she ran upstairs to interrupt a fight she overheard between the mayor and his wife, Fumiko Bradley.
"I thought to myself, 'This is dangerous,' and ran upstairs," Machinaga said in court referring to hearing Bradley screaming at his wife on April 2.
Machinaga—a Japanese native who doesn't speak English and spoke through an interpreter in court—said she ran up the stairs past Bradley who was standing outside of the bathroom. She said she found Fumiko Bradley in the bathroom shaking with her arms crossing her chest.

Machinaga explained in court that she walked up to Bradley and said "no," one of the few English words she knows. The prosecution, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, asked if there was a specific reason she came to visit her daughter.
"No, not really. It's always that way, she say come," Machinaga said, explaining that she visits her daughter annually around spring.

Adam Bradley's lawyer, Luis Andrew Penichet, declined to cross-examine Machinaga. Westchester County Judge Susan Capeci granted Penichet's request to have Fumiko Bradley's former employer testify.
According to Penichet, the former employer would illustrate Fumiko Bradley's longstanding reputation as being untruthful.
The prosecution argued that this testimony would be "too remote," since Fumiko Bradley was employed at the Japanese School back in 1999 to 2000.
The prosecution will finish up their case tomorrow by re-calling police officers to the stand.
The defense will begin their case tomorrow. Penichet said he plans to call several police officers to testify. The trial resumes Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
Bradley, 49, and Fumiko Bradley, 38, have been married for seven years and both filed for divorce in September. Bradley has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges and violations for assault, harassment and witness tampering. Capeci is presiding over the non-jury trial, as well as the Bradleys' divorce case.
