Mid-Week Neighborhood Dish April 6: A White Plains woman is named Stepinac's Mother of the Year, White Plains High School will hold a furniture drive and New York-Presbyterian raises awareness for cancer and more.

Eileen Dolan Henderson is Stepinac’s Mother of the Year

White Plains mother of five Eileen Dolan Henderson was named ’s 2011 Mother of the Year.

In addition to being a great mom to her children—Henderson has been a member of the Lady Crusaders and has served as treasurer, as well as volunteered to organize many open houses and casino nights at the school. She has coordinated fundraising for the hockey team, and for Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in White Plains, where she and her family are parishioners.

Henderson and her husband, Michael ,were awarded the “In Te Domine Speravi” Award at graduation in 2008 for their service to Stepinac. Click on the PDF for more about Henderson

April is Autism Month at New York-Presbyterian Hospital

in White Plains will join other organizations around the world, and illuminate their main building in blue to put the spotlight on autism. Click on the picture to see the blue-lit building.

Autism spectrum disorders affect one in 110 children and one in 70 boys. An estimated 1 million to 1.5 million American adults and children live with an autism spectrum disorder, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The hospital will house the region’s only comprehensive autism treatment center in 2012.

The New York Center for Autism will offer clinical program, diagnostics and treatment in patients of all ages—as well as train health care professionals in autism spectrum disorders and brain development disorders. Click on the PDF for more information.

Afterschool Art Show

The White Plains Youth Bureau’s After School Connection program at George Washington School will be holding a children’s art show on Thurs,, April 7 at 4:30 pm in the cafeteria of the school at, 100 Orchard St.

Students from Bronxville High School’s Relay for Life Club will host a fundraising event at of White Plains to raise money to fight cancer.

For $44.95, those who come to the restaurant for a four-course meal of fondue, salad, an entrée and desert will help the students beat last year’s fundraising total of $5,400. Click here for the detailed menu. The Melting Pot will donate $10 from every four-course meal special they sell on April 7 to the students’ total pledge amount for the 2011 Relay for Life event. The White Plains High School Interact Club is holding a furniture drive with Furniture Sharehouse, Westchester's Furniture Bank.  Please donate your gently used furniture directly to needy families. The drive will be held at, 550 North St., on Sun. April 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Click for more information and what can and can’t be donated.
