City Council Talks Liquor Laws, Budget

The White Plains Common Council will hold a special meeting Wed. April 20 at 6 p.m., at . The council will discuss expenditures of the parking, traffic and public safety departments in relation to the proposed 2011-12 budget, as well as whether they will waive a 30-day notification requirement for a license for Bistro 25, at Maple Moor Golf Course, to sell alcoholic beverages Click on the PDF to see the meeting agenda.


Stand-up Comedian and former Saturday Night Live star Colin Quinn will stir up some laughs at at a benefit for the children of Coach Joe O’Grady, the school’s baseball coach who died of cancer at 38.

“We are very please that Colin Quinn has agreed to join us in a comedy show for a great cause that will benefit O’ Grady’s children,” said Football Coach Mike O’Donnell, in a news release. “Joe O’Grady led a life full of laughter and an amazing love for his wife, Shannon, their three children and his family and friends. We are going to celebrate Joe’s remarkable life during this special event.”

The event, which includes a part and comedy, will be held on Fri. April 29 in the school’s auditorium from 7 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $100 per person, call 347-452-9490 or email benefit4292911@aol.com for more information.

City Contracts Lobbyists
According to The Journal News, White Plains spent $44,000 on two lobbyists last year to fight state budget cuts, and push sales tax extenders, police pension funds, industrial development and home tax credits. Mayor Thomas Roach told The Journal News he is considering discontinuing contracts for the lobbyists when they expire in November. Click here for that story.

School Board Election to be Contested
It looks like the May 17 election for two seats on the White Plains Board of Education will be contested. Incumbents Rosemarie Eller, the school board president, and Dr. Randy Stein will run—as well as parent Lori Hardy. Petitions to run in the election require 100 signatures and must be submitted by Wed. April 27.
