White Plains got a new mayor, is starting a fatherhood initiative and more this week in White Plains.

Former White Plains Common Council President Thomas Roach was sworn is as the acting mayor of White Plains on Saturday, after former Mayor Adam Bradley made history on Friday, as the first mayor in White Plains to resign. More on those stories and .

A special election will be held within 60 days—which the council has not yet set a date for—to fill the remainder of Bradley's term.
The White Plains Democratic City Committee’s Nominating Committee is interviewing candidates for the Democratic nomination for Mayor. Interested candidates should call Nominating Committee Chair Tom Caruso at (914) 949-1501. The nominating committee will recommend a candidate in coming days, and the White Plains Democratic City Committee will nominate a candidate on March 10.

According to the White Plains CitizenNetReporter, White Plains Common Councilman Benjamin Boykin, Westchester County Legislator (D-5th) Bill Ryan and Roach have been interviewed. White Plains CitizenNetReporter also reported that former Councilman Glen Hockley, an independent who ran against Bradley in 2009, would run in the special election.
On Monday, sanitation and recycling will be operating on a holiday schedule, which mean sMonday and Thursday pick-up will be on Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday and Friday pick up will be on Wednesday and Friday. Paper will not be picked up on Wednesday this week. Click here for the pick-up schedule.

American Red Cross of Westchester County will conduct a babysitting training workshop.Participants will receive certification in American Red Cross Babysitting and Infant and Child CPR.

4.) Dads Get the Recognition They Deserve
Get the recognition you deserve and be an inspiration to other local dads. The first meeting of the White Plains Fatherhood Initiative will be held on Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the White Plains Public Library. The White Plains Youth Bureau, Beta Alpha Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and the White Plains City School District sponsor the initiative.
