New South Pond Boardwalk At Cranberry Lake Preserve Reopened
The area was washed away during Superstorm Sandy in 2012. The Westchester Parks Foundation took on the restoration earlier this spring.

NORTH WHITE PLAINS, NY — Nearly 12 years after Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc on a popular nature spot, a quiet lakeside area is accessible once again.
The Westchester Parks Foundation held a ribbon-cutting this month for the reopening of the South Pond Boardwalk at Cranberry Lake Preserve in North White Plains.
The area was washed away during Superstorm Sandy in 2012, but the WPF took on this restoration project earlier this spring and helped reconstruct the boardwalk and made it accessible to all to enjoy. The boardwalk is 240 feet long and has a new handrail making it easier for people to cross. The project was funded through proceeds from WPF annual holiday fundraiser – Westchester's Winter Wonderland.

To help with ongoing maintenance of this area, visitors will also be able to memorialize their support of the preserve by engraving a plank in the new boardwalk as some supporters already have begun to do. Information on how to make a donation can be found here.
