Patients Evacuated From White Plains Hospital Delivery Rooms: Reports

WHITE PLAINS, NY — Patients in the labor and delivery wing of White Plains Hospital had to be evacuated after a flood caused by the building's sprinkler system, according to media reports.

Both patients and staff had to evacuate the ward after the sprinkler malfunction Thursday morning, according to a FOX News report. The malfunction caused flooding in one part of the hospital wing, according to the report.

Hospital officials told CBS News that dozens of patients had to be moved from the flooded area, but everyone is safe and accounted for. A sprinkler head burst around 7:30 a.m. on the sixth floor of the hospital's labor and delivery wing, according to the station.

"Our staff worked together immediately to relocate our patients to unaffected areas of the hospital and all are safe," the hospital told CBS's Renee Anderson in a statement. "We are currently assessing the impacted areas to understand when we can move patients back into that wing."

The hospital told the station that flooding and cleanup are impacting some elective procedures, and visitors should expect some areas to be closed to the public.
