[Photos] ArtsWestchester Talk Tackles Public Art Projects

As White Plains continues to find ways implement public art installations into the city’s downtown, art officials brought in representatives from other communities Wednesday to discuss ways they’ve successfully integrated art into their communities.

The talk, which was held at the ArtsWestchester building in White Plains, focused on the challenges of incorporating art projects in the community that are in line with the sensibilities of the general public.

The talk was led by author Harriet F. Senie, one of the leading authorities on public art, and included Westchester County Legislator John Testa, R-Peekskill; Wilson Kimball, the commissioner of planning for Yonkers; William R. Hanauer, mayor of the Village  of Ossining; and Janet Langstrom, CEO of ArtsWestchester.  White Plains Mayor Tom Roach also made an appearance Wednesday.

The talk was held in conjunction with ArtsWestchester’s current exhibit “Placemaking: Re-envisioning White Plains.” The show, which is open until July 13 in the organization’s Peckham and Shenkman galleries at 31 Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains, features work that  imagines creative public art projects in downtown White Plains.
