Police: Couple Used Forged Credit Cards During Shopping Spree

A Brooklyn man and woman using a suspicious credit card to buy a $2,600 Chanel handbag were arrested Saturday after security at discovered the card was altered, police say.

The couple was also carrying two ipads and an iphone from the Apple Store valued at $1,258 bought with the same card earlier that day, police say.

Kah Chan, 31, and Jia Wong, 27, selected the Chanel handbag at the designer store at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Chan paid for the bag, but the address printed on the credit card didn't match the address that scanned into the computer, police say. Tipped off by the contradiction, store security called the card's bank, which confirmed the card had been altered, according to arrest reports.

White Plains Police say they also found three other forged credit cards and a fake identification card in Chan's pocket. All of the cards displayed the same name and police believe they were forged.

Both suspects were arrested. Chan, of 1831 Stillwell Ave., was charged with identity theft, criminal possession of a forged instrument and grand larceny—all felonies. Wong was charged with grand larceny. Her address was not provided in arrest reports.

Police say the Apple merchandise the couple was carrying had a receipt showing the same forged card was used. Additional charges for that incident are also possible, police say.

Both suspects were held for arraignment.
