Police: Drunk Man Found Asleep Behind the Wheel

The following arrest information was provided by the White Plains Police Department, it does not indicate a conviction.

An Elmsford man police say was drunk and asleep behind the wheel of his Honda Civic Friday night was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Police say the man was found near the intersection of Main Street and N Broadway at about 11:59 p.m. The man's vehicle was running with the keys in the ignition, according to an arrest report.

When an officer woke the driver up, the man's eyes were glassy and there was a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, according to an arrest report. Police issued a field sobriety test on the scene, which police say the driver failed. Police also found a cup of Hennessy, an alcoholic beverage, in the vehicle's center console, according to the report.

The driver was arrested and taken into police custody where he refused a blood-alcohol test, police say. The driver was later charged and released on $500 bail.
