Red Horse By David Burke Introduces Hudson Valley To American Dim Sum
The 10-course brunch will be presented on carts that constantly roam the dining room and in long-handled church baskets.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — You've had brunch, and you've had dim sum, but you've likely never had an "American dim sum" brunch quite like this.
Red Horse by David Burke White Plains will be launching an American dim sum brunch consisting of 10 courses, with a choice for each, this Sunday.
According to the restaurant, "dim sum" deriving from the Cantonese word for "appetizer" (in Mandarin Chinese, dianxin), is believed to have originated in tea houses along the Silk Road around 2500 years ago as a light, quick accompaniment to tea for travelers.

American dim sum, at Red Horse by David Burke White Plains, will offer snack-sized portions of American lunch and breakfast favorites, some with a Chinese accent, presented on carts that constantly roam the dining room. It will incorporate straight-from-the-kitchen waiter service for hot items, as well as the offering of popovers, donuts, cornbread and muffins in long-handled church baskets. There will also be a limited à la carte menu for brunch traditionalists.

Priced at $55 for the ten dishes, the American dim sum menu will include General Tso's crispy fried chicken, shrimp fried rice, oatmeal crème brulée in eggshell, smoked salmon, short rib or sliced steak, and beef or wild mushroom truffle waffle.

The restaurant says that it will be the only such brunch in the region, and possibly the first.
However, this is not the first time Burke has created an American dim sum brunch.
"I did it in Chicago in the '90s; 30 dishes for $35. Fun and interactive, it was a huge hit, selling out weekly and getting a lot of press. At Red Horse in White Plains, for those that don't want to do the American dim sum, there will be a small à la carte menu with an omelet, eggs Benedict, etc."

Brunch-oriented cocktails such as bloody marys, bloody marias and mimosas, will be available by the carafe.
The new brunch at Red Horse by David Burke White Plains is the latest initiative at the restaurant, which also offers: a daily happy hour from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; regular dinner-and-a-show comedy nights; monthly wine dinners; Monday Burger Night; Half-Priced Sushi Thursdays; and novelty entertainment as Beat Burke Dinners, during which Burke competes with another chef with guests judging the winner; and Keith & Margo’s Murder Mystery Dinners.
