The Irony of Mother's Day
Tobi Spino ponders the thought of more than one day a year dedicated moms

Mother's Day. I am still not used to it. Not that I have any reason to feel that seasoned. But it is my third one, and I still get a bit overwhelmed with various emotions.
There is a lot of irony in Mother’s Day, when you think about it. Is it a day on which mothers are honored? Do we get the day off? No dirty diapers? No tantrums? And does it mean every other day of the year we are more or less disregarded? Lol. I mean, of course not, but for all of the work that is involved with being a mother—from pregnancy onward—well, it’s sort of a slap in the face for only ONE day out of 365 to be designated a day of recognition.
Because, let’s be honest: If it’s a day all about Mom and what Mom wants to do...well, I want to have my feet up, cocktail in hand, sun on my face and just relax in some blissful peace and quiet. Nobody yelling or screaming: “Mommmmmmmeeeeeeeeeee!”

But it’s those, (umm, cute?) screeches of "Mommmmeeeee" that give us the privilege to celebrate the day!
Hmmm. So how do you create the perfect balance of this ONE DAY to enjoy some deserved peace, quiet and R&R—as well as some fun quality time with your family? Now that I have you thinking about it, I can hear your wheels spinning. Not easy, right? Let’s not forget the time you want to spend with your own mothers, grandmothers, mothers-in-law, etc. Family obligations can also end up ruling the day.

Naturally, I suggest the easiest solution to be having one Sunday a month designated Mother’s Day. It would allow all the plans to be executed on every level: One month you can spend the day away and alone, another with the kids, another with the whole fam…..there would be 12 WELL DESERVED Mother’s Days a year to well, let us really revel in it.
Though I think Hallmark would be all over my proposition, I fear that the rest of the world, —namely, men (with the exception, I am sure, of my wonderfully loving and supportive hubby…lol)—would deem it to be overly indulgent and then insist on a day every month in which they were able to be left alone and play golf. NEWSFLASH….they have one, it’s called SUNDAY!
Well, in any event, I hope all of the mammas out there have a wonderful Mother’s Day and are able to spend the day in any and every way you wish. Of course a special shout out of love to my own own wonderfully gorgeous, fabulous and amazing mother, whom I love and to whom I am indebted to beyond words.
Happy Mother’s Day!
