The Week Ahead in White Plains: The Miss Westchester Pageant, Egyptian Culture and the County Swim Championships

1.) Digging Into the Past: Ancient Egypt

The White Plains Library invites students in grades 1 - 6 to participate in its program “Digging into the Past: Ancient Egypt” today at 4:30 p.m at “The Trove” children’s library. The event will feature Egyptian inspired tales and crafts. Tickets for the event will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis 30 minutes prior to the start of the program. 2.) The 88th Westchester County Swim Championships Resume this Week

The swimming portion of the 88th annual Westchester County Swimming and Diving Championships starts this week. Playland Pool in Rye will host the swimming competition, which begins on Monday, July 29, and runs through Thursday, Aug. 1, beginning at 4:30 p.m. each day. Rain date is Aug. 2. The events are sponsored by Westchester County Parks and the Westchester County Swimming Association. See wcsa.usswim.net or westchestergov.com/parks for more information.

3.) Start Smart Salary Negotiation Workshop

This free event, which takes place from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the YWCA of White Plains and Central Westchester, is designed to give students and young professionals - especially women - the skills needed to earn fair compensation. The workshop is being organized by the Westchester Chapter of the American Association of University Women. 4.) Voter Registration at Renaissance Plaza

The White Plains Democratic City Committee will be registering voters at Renaissance Plaza on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. throughout the summer and fall. If you plan to come to the Farmers' Market, we'll be just around the corner on the Plaza.  If you're not registered, or if you've recently moved and need to re-register, stop by.

5.) 2014 Miss Westchester & Miss Hudson Valley Pageants

Young women ages 14-26 from Westchester County and the Hudson Valley Region will compete for the chance to become Miss Westchester, Miss Westchester Teen, Miss Hudson Valley and Miss Hudson Valley Teen this Saturday at 4 p.m., inside the White Plains Performing Arts Center . Contestants will compete in the categories of Swimsuit, Evening Gown, Judges Interview and On-Stage Question. The winners will go on to represent Westchester and Hudson Valley at the Miss New York USA and Miss New York Teen USA competitions at Purchase College Performing Arts Center in January. Tickets, which range in price from $35 to $50, can be purchased here.
