Thief Steals Equipment From Vehicle's Undercarriage

Police say parking lot video surveillance shows someone tampering with a 2008 Ford Suburban before walking off with its catalytic converter.

Police are investigating an auto stripping incident that was caught on tape early Saturday morning.

The owner of a Ford Suburban parked overnight in a garage near 1311 Mamaroneck Ave. in White Plains first reported the incident Monday afternoon when he noticed his vehicle was making strange sounds. A look at the vehicle's undercarriage revealed a missing catalytic converter, a piece of auto equipment used to regulate omissions.

When garage security looked at surveillance from the weekend they noticed someone with a flashlight meddling with the bottom of the vehicle at about 2:49 a.m. Saturday.

Police do not have a clear description of the suspect at this time because of the poor quality of the security video, according to a police report. Police say the thief was likely either selling the piece of equipment or planned to use it on his own vehicle with a similar make and model.

If caught, the thief would likely face a misdemeanor charge, police say.
