Today in White Plains: Lyme Disease Info Session Scheduled in White Plains; Library Hosts College Admissions Workshop

  • The Whole Foods Market White Plains is donating 5 percent of net sales today to support the CELF Student Ambassadors Program. The Children's Environmental Literacy Foundation provides free training and community-based programming for high school students to become knowledgeable advocates for healthy, vibrant communities locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • The second annual Lyme Research Alliance Lyme Community Informational Evening and reception to be held at Mercedes-Benz of White Plains this evening at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The event, "What You Need To Know About Lyme Disease," will give Westchester residents the knowledge and tools to fight back against the silent epidemic of tick-borne disease, a potentially devastating, but mostly preventable family of diseases. The format will be a cocktail reception hosted by Mercedes-Benz, followed by a 30-minute briefing by two experts on Lyme disease.
  • The White Plains Library is hosting a workshop on the college admissions process and financial aid today from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The workshop will show parents and students what it takes to get into college, how the financial aid system works, the importance of standardized tests, and  what the most selective colleges are looking for from students. Refreshments will be served. The White Plains Library is located 100 Martine Ave.
  • Photographer Justine Kurland will give a talk today at 6:30 p.m. as part of the Visiting Artist Lecture Series being conducted this fall by Purchase College, SUNY’s School of Art+Design in the college’s Visual Arts Building, Room 1016.  Kurland’s work focuses on the American Landscape and the adolescents, wanderers, seekers and nymphs that populate and mythologize its surface. She is known for lushly described, large format color photographs that show vignettes of life played out by the willing strangers she meets on road trips crossing the country. The lecture is free and open to the public. The college is located at 735 Anderson Hill Rd. in  Purchase.
