Updated: Pace Students Saved From Blaze
The White Plains Fire Bureau has extinguished a fire at 24 Grant Ave.
Update: According to White Plains Fire Chief Richard Lyman the cause of the Grant Avenue fire is still under investigation as of noon Tuesday. Lyman said police broke down doors to the enter the building and get students out and that others in the neighborhood helped assist in the early morning fire. Scarsdale and Fairview Fire Departments also assisted the White Plains Fire Bureau. Click here for the full story in The Journal News.
Seven Pace University students were saved from a blaze at their three-story rental home at 24 Grant Ave. just before 9 a.m. Monday. The cause of the fire, which burned through the kitchen, is still under investigation.
“We hope to have a cause today or tomorrow,” said Fire Chief Richard Lyman.

Around dozens of firefighters and public safety personnel were on the scene until 11 a.m. making sure the area was safe. See our photos and video.
Since the electricity to the building was shut off and structure has significant water, fire and smoke damaged, Lyman said it was unlikely that the student will be able to return to their homes. The American Red Cross was on the scene to offer the students shelter and other necessities. Power was turned off for about two hours on the street, and was turned back on at 11 a.m.
