Earth Week 2012 in White Plains

• When/Where: Saturday and Sunday; Various times and locations throughout White Plains. Click for the full Earth Week intinerary.
• Why Go: Learn how you can help save the earth this weekend during a number of events held in honor of Earth Week 2012
• Price: Free

The Laramie Project

• When/Where: Friday, Saturday at 8 p.m.; White Plains Performing Arts Center, White Plains
• Why Go: Learn what is what like for Laramie, Wyoming after the death of Matthew Shepard, an openly gay college student who was brutally murder because of his sexuality. Click for more information additional show times.

Ruff Start Dog Rescue Adoption Event 

• When/Where: Saturday, April 21 at 12 p.m.; The Melting Pot, White Plains
• Why Go: Give the gift of love and bring home a new dog from this adopt event.  Click or details.

Earth Day Celebration in Honor of Wangari Maathai

• When/Where: Sunday, April 22 at 11 a.m.; The Presbyterian Church of White Plains
• Why Go: Celebrate Earth Day and the life of Dr. Wangari Maathai, 2004 Nobel Peace prize winner, on the front lawn of the church at 39 North Broadway. Click for details.
• Price: Free

Annual 100.7 WHUD Kids Fair

• When/Where: Saturday, April 21, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the in White Plains.
• Why Go: Families, from tots to teens can enjoy a day of educational displays, games and interactive exhibits, along with a live radio broadcast. Westchester County Parks will be featured and will offer a sampling of programs and a glimpse at parks and services, from the animals of Muscoot Farm in Somers to what can be discovered by hiking along many trails through the more than 18,000 acres of county parkland.
• Kids can exercise at the Be Fit-Mobile with hula-hoops, jump ropes and other fun activities to keep fit. Get information on Children’s Summer Ecology camps, the Westchester Summer Music Center, the Slam Dunk Basketball and the Girls Volleyball camps, as well as the Hole-in-One Junior Golf Camp
• Price:  Admission is $5 for children and $8 for adults.

PEACE-skill Art Evening

• When/Where:  Saturday, April 21, 6-8 p.m. at in Peekskill
• Why Go: Drop young rockers off, ages 5-14 (in festive attire if they like) for an evening in the art lab making groovy art, playing retro games & rocking out to 70s music while you enjoy your own evening out in Peekskill’s downtown/Jan Peek area.

Shop Cortland Weekend Events

• When/Where: Saturday, April 21, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Give and Take Event—Bring items that you would like to donate and come see what is free for the taking. No money is needed. The Town asks that items be clean, reusable and in working condition. No furniture or other large items will be accepted. Drop off begins at 8:30 a.m. at the (Off West Brook Drive).
• Clean-up your neighborhood for Earth Day: Saturday, April 21, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Pick up supplies at the Muriel H. Morabito Community Center. Great opportunity to volunteer to help keep the community clean. For more information call 914-734-1002
• Why Go: Cortlandt officials have long been dedicated to environmental awareness and supporting their local economy. This April 20 through 29 they will promote these values with Shop and Do Business in Cortlandt week.

Chinese Culture Family Day

• When/Where:  Sunday, April 22, 12 noon-4 p.m. at
• Why Go: A day of fun activities introduces families to fascinating parts of traditional Chinese culture. Invent and paint your own calligraphic symbols on a banner; enjoy a Chinese concert with traditional Chinese musical instruments; see a real Chinese Fan Dance performance and more.
• Price: Adults: free to KMA members, $5 non-members. Children (ages 3 and up): $5 KMA members, $10 non-members.

Hudson Vagabond Puppets: Three Billy Goats Gruff & Caps for Sale

• When/Where:  Saturday, April 21, 11 a.m. and 1:30 pm. at the in Mamaroneck
• Why Go: The Hudson Vagabond Puppets bring to life the classic tales of the Three Bill Goats Gruff and Caps for Sale in their larger-than-life puppetry and mask production. Using traditional techniques from around the world, the puppeteers magically become mere shadows of the enormous figures they bring to life.
• Price: Tickets: $18 adults; $13 children, ages 3 and up.

Earth Day Quest

• When/Where: Saturday, April 21, 10 a.m. at in Ossining. Program runs throughout the day.
• Why Go: To mark this special day, Earth Day, join in a letterboxing quest on Teatown’s trails – part hike, part treasure hunt and full of adventurous fun. Scramble over rocks, poke through swamps and follow the clues to find the hidden boxes with a special earth day message.

2nd Annual Earth Day Benefit Concert

• When/Where:   Sunday, April 22, 7 p.m. at
• Why Go:  Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, founded by Pete Seeger, presents an annual concert. This year it will salute Woody Guthrie and featured artists that include Janis Ian, Tom Paxton, The Klezmatics, Tom Chapin, Toshi Reagon, David Amram, Lucy Kaplansky, Garland Jeffreys and Cheryl Wheeler. Proceeds benefit Clearwater's Environmental Education and Camp Programs.
• Price:  Tickets range from $48-$125.

Furniture Drive: Collecting Furniture at North Castle’s Zero Waste Day

• When/Where: Saturday, April 21, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the parking lot behind North Castle Town Hall in Armonk, rain or shine.
• Why Go:  Furniture Sharehouse, “Westchester’s Furniture Bank,” will be collecting gently used furniture to benefit Westchester families in need. The Drive is a part of "Zero Waste Day" and will take only basic home furniture in good condition.
• Price: Free

The Sound of Music

• When/Where:  April 21, 22, 28 and 29, at 12 noon. at in Pleasantville
• Why Go: This family favorite movie can be seen on the big screen. The hills are alive with the joy and charm of this beloved musical and its many hummable tunes.
• Price:  $11/adults, $6.50 kids (non-members)
