White Plains Board of Ed 2012 Election Uncontested

Two incumbents are running in the election, along with newcomer Rose Lovitch.

Incumbents Peter Bassano, James Hricay and newcomer Rose Lovitch are running unopposed in the 2012 White Plains School Board Election.

Lovitch will be taking over for Donna McLaughlin, who has been a school board member since 1997, and will not be seeking re-election.

Lovitch, an attorney who practices general civil law, has been a resident of White Plains for about 21 years and lives in the Soundview neighborhood.

Her son Michael, a college freshman, graduated from where her son Bobby is currently a freshman. Her daughter Nicole is an eighth grader at . She is the current PTA Council co-president and has been involved in the PTA for 12 years serving on numerous committees, and has been president of the PTA, as well as a Girl Scout troop leader.

PETER BASSANO 

Peter Bassano has been a member of the Board of Education since 2002 and a resident of White Plains since 1988. He has a B.S. degree from Columbia University and a J.D. from Pace University. His two children have been educated in the White Plains Schools.

A partner in the firm of Bleakley Platt & Schmidt in White Plains, Mr. Bassano is a member of the firm's executive committee and head of its Commercial Finance and Real Estate Practice Groups. He is also a member of the Pace Law School Board of Visitors.

Mr. Bassano was a member of the district's Annual Budget Committee and also of the Board of Directors of the White Plains Little League.

In Board activity, Mr. Bassano serves on Human Resources Committee.

 JAMES HRICAY

A resident of White Plains since 1999, James Hricay was elected to the Board in 2009. He has three children, two of whom are school-age and are enrolled in the White Plains Schools. He had previously served on the district's Annual Budget Committee.

Mr. Hricay holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from George Mason University and an MPA in Public Policy from the Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service at NYU and an MBA in Financial Management from Iona College. He serves as Assistant Director of the Office of Policy and Management for the City of Stamford, CT.

As a Board Member, Mr. Hricay serves on the Finance and Safety Committees.

The election will take place on Tuesday, May 15 from noon to 9 p.m., when you can also vote on the 2012-13 school budget. Click here for a map of the six voting districts, and call the district clerk at (914) 422-2000 for information on your polling location.

If aren’t registered to vote or have moved within the city since you last voted—you can register or re-register to vote on Saturday, April 28 from noon to 5 p.m. at , 7 Nosband Ave. 

You must be a U.S. citizen, 18 year of age or more, and a White Plains resident for at least 30 days prior to the election. Residents who voted in a general election in the past four years are automatically register to vote, and don’t need to re-register. You can also register to vote at the , 25 Quarropas St. in White Plains.
