The units will be located at the city's Chester Maple Parking Lot.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — The city of White Plains Common Council approved the installation of six new electric vehicle chargers at one of its parking lots.

The council unanimously approved the resolution through a consent agenda vote at its meeting Monday.

The city will allocate four to six parking spaces for the charging stations, plus an approximately 10-foot-by-20-foot area for the power equipment to feed the charging stations.

The power authority will pay the city an annual maintenance fee of at least $12,000.

“As more and more people are getting electric cars,” Mayor Tom Roach said during the meeting, there is a need for more and more chargers.

He noted that the new chargers will be Level 3 units, meaning that cars can be charged much faster than with Level 1 or Level 2 chargers.

Roach said that the city also wants to make sure that people who live in apartments have the ability to charge electric vehicles.
