White Plains Youth Bureau Greening Project Gets Award

The ’s Greening Project will receive the Federated Conservationists of Westchester Edith G. Read Award at their 47th Annual Meeting on June 14, 2012 from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Edith G. Read Wildlife Sanctuary in Rye, NY.
The award is being given to the White Plains Youth Bureau’s Greening Project for outstanding , including their where students grow food for local food banks.
The Greening Project is an environmental education program, an important part of which includes a community garden located at Baldwin Farms on Hall Avenue. Twelve youth participate in the program each year, from July through June. With the help of Bunge Corporation, the White Plains Beautification Foundation and volunteers, the program harvests several hundred pounds of food each year which is donated to the White Plains Ecumenical Food Pantry.
