Wrong Turn Leads to 3 Arrests, Police Say

The following arrest information was provided by the White Plains Police Department, it does not indicate a conviction.

Three of the four occupants of a Cadillac DeVille police say was driving the wrong way onto Main St. in White Plains early Sunday morning were arrested, including the driver who police say was intoxicated and a passenger who faces a felony charge.

An officer stopped the vehicle at about 5:57 a.m. after it turned the wrong way down Main St. near the Bank St. intersection, police say. The driver, a 39-year-old male from New Rochelle, had alcohol on his breath and was taken out of the vehicle for a field sobriety test, according to an arrest report.

Police say the driver failed the test and was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. He refused a breathalyzer, police say, and was held for court.

But the trouble within the vehicle didn't stop there. Police say when they asked the other three occupants to get out of the vehicle one of them, 26-year-old Olalla Almada, refused to do so. Police say Almada was on the phone and refused to leave the vehicle until she finished her conversation. Once out of the vehicle, police say Almada continued to be uncooperative, standing in the road and refusing to move to the sidewalk.

When Almada was asked to leave the scene, police say she cursed at officers and stood in the same spot. At this time she was arrested, according to a police report.

Police say as they placed Almada in a police cruiser another occupant, a 27-year-old male, ran at officers and was also arrested. Both were charged with disorderly conduct, a violation.

The fourth occupant of the vehicle left the scene and was not charged.

As police transported Almada to headquarters, she used her feet to kick the rear passenger window of the police vehicle out of its frame, police say. The window was not cracked, but there was more than $250 damage to the window frame, according to an arrest report.

Police then charged Almada with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony. Both her and the 27-year-old who was also arrested were held without bail.

The police vehicle, a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria, had to be taken out of service.
