The 22-year-old victim was taken to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. He had not been named as of Friday afternoon.

A Scholes Street resident who declined to identify herself was returning home with her two-year-old child when she looked across the street and saw a man in a hooded sweatshirt shoot the 22-year-old, she said.

When his victim fell into a seated position, the shooter fired again into the man’s chest and fled into the Williamsburg Housing courtyard, she said.

“I was pretty shocked,” said the woman. “There have definitely been gunshots before, but it’s the first time someone has died.”

Pedro Lebron, 74, who has lived across the street for about 50 years, rushed to the window when he heard shots and saw the man lying in the courtyard.

Lebron watched as a man tried to resuscitate the victim and another young woman cried.

“I felt bad,” sad Lebron. “He was a young kid.”

Nobody was immediately arrested.
