Woman Fights Off Rapist Who Forced Way Into Brooklyn Home: NYPD

A man attempted to rape a woman in Greenpoint after forcing open her apartment door and claiming he had a knife.

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — The NYPD is trying to identify a man who attempted to rape a woman in her Greenpoint apartment, police said.

The man knocked on the door of a residential building on Meeker Avenue and Kingsland Avenue and asked for "Jeffery" when a 37-year-old woman answered, police said. After the woman opened the door and engaged the man in conversation, the man forced the door open, pushed the woman into a bedroom and said he had a knife in his bag, police said.

After threatening the woman, the man demanded she perform a sex act, police said. The woman punched the man in the groin before attempting to escape the apartment, which led to a physical struggle, police said. During the struggle, the man tackled the woman to the ground and attempted to remove her dress, police said.

When the victim screamed for help the man fled the apartment, police said. The woman struck her head on a door when she was tackled and was treated at Woodhull Hospital for lacerations to her head, police said.

The suspect is described as a man in his mid 20s standing about 6-foot-2 with a medium build, police said. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, black short-sleeved shirt, beige pants and black shoes.
