Brooklyn-based Startup Develops App for All Things Local

A Brooklyn startup has developed an iPhone application that can help connect Kensington and Windsor Terrace residents to their local surroundings with one information feed. 

"Echolocation organizes the content around the location," said creator Brian Donohue.

The app caters to the burgeoning interest people have in knowing about all that occurs locally.

"Echo connects you with your location through 140 character messages, and it's a bit like a hyperlocal version of Twitter," Donohue said. "Our goal for Echo is to provide people with an effective way to communicate with other people in the community."

Though the most recent version of the application was launched a month ago, Donohue and his team are constantly developing additional facets to make the app more appealing to the community. 

"As we move forward and mature, we'll bring in other strategies and try to focus on other aspects, [including] opening the platform for local businesses," he said. "Businesses will be able to get a message out for the community if want they want to run a discount."

"We'd like to have a dedicated [group of] people that can access our platform from any device, including local businesses, local government, Police Departments, schools," he continued. "Thats really the vision-- create the community and move the community forward"
