For These Librarians, Quiet Hours Are Over: Report

From shelving books to catchy hooks, local librarians are making noise.

A troupe of Brooklyn librarians—including one from the city's Kensington branch—are defying the stereotypes of their profession with their band, Lost in the Stacks, the Daily News reports.

The band, a jazz and blues outfit, plays at literary events across the city, and has even produced an album that includes both original songs and beloved covers like“All of Me,” and “Stormy Monday."

Matt Cole, who works in the library's Kensington branch and serves as the band's alto and baritone saxophone player, said their performances are helping to reshape public perception about the profession, proving that the word "librarian" is not synonymous with cat-eye glasses and cranky demeanors.

“We’re not your father’s and mother’s librarians,” Cole told the News. “A lot of us are the really creative types.”
