Prospect Park Dog Run Plans Revealed
Here's what a new dog run in Prospect Park near Kensington could look like.

KENSINGTON, BROOKLYN — Newly released drawings show what a potential new dog run in Prospect Park could look like, a project that has been in the works for years by neighborhood activists.
The dog run would be put in near the Prospect Park Parade Grounds in Kensington and would give dog-owners a space to let their pooches run around without a leash.
Members of the Kensington Dog Run Association, a group of neighborhood dog-owners, have been pushing for the space for several years.

"There’s really no areas for dogs to run around and be off leash," Sal Garro, president of the association, told Patch. "We’ve got off leash hours at PP, and those are pretty limited and a lot of people can’t make it to those."
The designs, from a team at the Prospect Park Alliance, show separate areas for smaller and larger dogs, along with benches for dog owners.

"The designs are incredible," Garro said. "They’re exactly what we wanted. I feel like they really listened to us when we first sat down. They clearly saw our vision."
The dog run will be funded by money allocated through participatory budgeting from both Councilmen Mathieu Eugene's and Brad Lander's offices. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams' office has also contributed funding.
The project will go before Community Board 14's Community Environment Committee on April 19 at 7 p.m., according to a Prospect Park Alliance spokeswoman.
Garro said his group is hoping it can be open in about two years.
