State Rep. Upgrades District Office Storefront With Local Art

"It's about beautifying the neighborhood," Assemblymember Bobby Carroll told Patch.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Anyone who's walked along Seventh Avenue has surely noticed the cluster of flyers and announcements cluttering the outside of the district office for New York state Rep. Bobby Carroll.

But the Kensington attorney-turned-assemblyman has recently upgraded the outside of that Park Slope office, ditching at least part of that litter on one side of the door in favor of some local artwork.

Carroll — who grew up in Kensington and now represents the neighborhood along with parts of Windsor Terrace, Park Slope, Ditmas Park and Flatbush in Albany — worked with the Park Slope/Windsor Terrace Artists Group to bring the pieces to his office.

"It's about beautifying the neighborhood," Carroll told Patch when we stopped by the office on a sunny Friday afternoon. "It's much nicer when you go around and the storefronts are pretty and thoughtful about it."

The pieces on display now feature Prospect Park, Farrell's bar and more. He hopes to keep a regular rotation going.

"Aesthetics really matter in my district," Carroll told us.

To that end, Carroll also told Patch he hopes to be able to use the rest of his bare-bones office, where Carroll works when he isn't at the state capital, to promote more local art with an event such as an art show.

For now, if local artists are interested in having pieces featured they can contact his chief of staff, Dan Campanelli at campanellid@nyassembly.gov.
