NYC Woman Accused Of Not Showing Up For Court

She was originally charged with third-degree grand larceny, police said.

YORKTOWN, NY — A New York City woman was accused of missing a scheduled court appearance.

The Yorktown Police Department said Shayolanda Lewis-Major, 25, of New York City, was arrested Dec. 14 and charged with second-degree bail jumping, a felony.

Police said, around 7:15 p.m. Dec. 14, officers were advised by the Yorktown Justice Court that someone had arrived in court who had missed a previously scheduled court appearance.

Authorities said Lewis-Major didn’t appear for a court date on Oct. 5 or within 30 days to answer to the charge of third-degree grand larceny.

A bench warrant was issued by the court.

On Dec. 14, when she arrived in court, the warrant was executed by the court which then advised the police to process her on the bail jumping charge.

Lewis-Major surrendered to a detective in the lobby of the police department and was placed under arrest.

She was released on her own recognizance to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court March 7.
