VIDEO: NC Trooper Shoots Driver Holding Gun

North Carolina State Highway Patrol released a dash camera video Tuesday that shows a trooper shooting a man who got out the car with a gun.

NORTH CAROLINA — The North Carolina State Highway Patrol on Tuesday released dash camera video that shows a trooper shooting a man who came out of his car with a gun during a traffic stop.

The video shows a man exiting his vehicle while holding a gun. The trooper runs around the back of the truck and shoots the man as he exits the truck.

Trooper Rodney N. Cook stopped the car in the Harmony Hills subdivision in Siler City, reported WRAL. The initial stop was made for a driver seat belt violation, NCSHP told the news outlet.

Mark Anthony Diaz, 21, of Staley, N.C., was pulled over and during the course of the stop had a gun in his hand. Cook then shot Diaz, who was taken to a local hospital but pronounced dead. The trooper wasn't injured, reported WRAL.
