• Utility rates increase in Asheboro (randolphrecord.com) — Asheboro residents are now seeing higher water and sewer bills after a 5% rate hike and new meter-based fees took effect on November statements, adding about $17.16 per month for the average household. City officials say the increase is required by state rules to keep utilities self-funded and will help pay for major upgrades to the aging water and wastewater treatment plants.
   

• Randolph County leaders urge funding for homeless shelters after cold snap (myfox8.com) — Homeless advocates in Asheboro and across Randolph County are warning that local shelters are full and urgently need more funding after a recent cold snap. With Place of Hope unable to staff all its beds, Sheriff Greg Seabolt has even opened the detention center lobby as a temporary warm space. Leaders are being pressed to expand shelter capacity and support outreach this winter.
   

• Prep wrestling: Trinity rules mats in home tourney (randolphrecord.com) — Local wrestling fans saw strong showings from several Randolph County schools as Trinity dominated its home invitational and Asheboro’s boys and girls wrestlers earned key podium finishes. Asheboro placed fifth in the Trinity Invitational, with Oscar Zelaya taking second and three teammates finishing third, while Brianna Munoz and Grace Redding each grabbed runner-up spots at the Queen of the Mat Invitational.
