• Cornelius 101 will teach residents about town government (corneliustoday.com) — Cornelius is rolling out a free seven-week “Cornelius 101” course to help residents understand how town government really works, from development approvals to major road projects and fire services. Starting Feb. 10, participants will meet weekly at Town Hall and other facilities, tour key departments, and must live, work, or own a business within town limits. 
• Report: Auburn student on plane that crashed in North Carolina, killing seven, including retired NASCAR driver Greg Biffle (waka.com) — A former Hough High School student from Cornelius, 20-year-old aviation major Jack Dutton, was among seven people killed when a business jet crashed near Statesville Regional Airport. The crash also claimed retired NASCAR driver Greg Biffle and his family as investigators work to understand why the plane tried to return to the airport and went down shortly after takeoff.
