Christmas In Davidson 2020: How Festival Will Look Amid COVID-19

DAVIDSON, NC — Davidson's annual "Christmas in Davidson" holiday festival is set to take place this year, however, it will have a different look due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, organizers say.

"Covid is changing the way we all do things," the Town of Davidson said. "We are taking this opportunity to return to the origins of Christmas in Davidson where people came out to support Davidson businesses and enjoy some holiday cheer."

Christmas in Davidson is set to run in downtown Davidson from Dec. 1 through Dec. 12, from noon until 2 p.m., and 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. daily.

This year, the festival will include decorations and roving entertainment. Due to health and safety concerns, however, many of the attractions, such as hay rides and crowded stage events on the Village Green that have become festival staples in recent years won't be happening this year.

The event will also be following all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, which include wearing a face covering, waiting 6 feet apart and washing hands often.

"If you are able, please support Davidson businesses and non-profits that have been hit so hard during this global pandemic," the town said.

Here's what event organizers say to expect this year:

• Softly falling snow, daily
• Dazzling tree lighting, on Facebook Live Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m.
• Brilliant Giving Tree Village on the Village Green, daily
• Delicious dining or takeout from more than 20 local restaurants, daily
• Festive Doggie Fashion Show, on Facebook Live Friday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m.
• Jolly roving Santa on a golf cart, daily
• Holiday stilt walker, daily
• Hilarious Ugly Sweater Contest, on Facebook Live Friday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m.
• Fabulous holiday shopping at local merchants, daily
• Glowing luminaries lining Griffith, Jetton and Main streets, daily
• Delightful drive-in movies, Saturday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 12
• Original Instagram photo-op of the day, daily
