3d Special Forces Group Soldier Honored at Unit Memorial Ceremony
The community paid tribute Thursday to SGM William L. Lubbers

A longtime Fort Bragg based NCO was honored by leadership and peers of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Special Forces Group Thursday afternoon at the JFK Chapel.
Sgt. Maj. William ("Willie") L. Lubbers, a native of Lenexa, KS died on Nov. 15, 2012 in Midland, TX.

Lubbers impact on the Fort Bragg community was evident in the standing room only chapel. Leading up to the memorial was a touching slide show of family photos and the soldier in action through the years.
Tearful tributes were paid by leadership that spoke of Willie's professional accolades, his devotion and tireless service to his men and their families.

Following a somber "Amazing Grace" by the bagpiper, Doug Elwell, the traditional Special Forces Prayer was recited by the congregation before the "Ballad of the Green Berets" was played.
1Sgt. Roger Watts called out The Last Roll Call and the Sounding of Taps followed the Firing of Volleys.
Sgt. Maj. Lubbers is survived by his spouse and two children, his parents, Mike and Karen Lubbers; and brothers, Jason and Greg Lubbers.
The meaning of the name William: determined protector and that is just who Willie was to his men and his family.
