With half a billion dollars up for grabs today, Fayetteville residents are lining up to buy Powerball tickets.
N.C. Education Lottery officials issued a new estimate Tuesday, increasing the jackpot to $500 million, based on strong ticket sales for the drawing.
Lottery officials are asking players to check their numbers closely if they buy tickets for the drawing. Alice Garland, executive director of the state lottery, said the Powerball game offers a variety of significant prizes in addition to the jackpot. The Saturday drawing produced 68,017 winning tickets in the state. Prizes ranged from $4 to $40,000 and totaled $527,442.
