Defense Concludes Presentation of Its Case in Holcomb Trial on Saturday

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Today saw the fifth day of testimony in the court martial
of Sgt. Adam Holcomb, an infantryman assigned to 1st Brigade Combat Team,
25th Infantry Division. Holcomb is facing court martial in connection with
the death of Pvt. Danny Chen in Afghanistan Oct. 3, 2011.
Court was called into session shortly after 8:30 a.m., with testimony from
defense witnesses. Â The defense called four witnesses, one witness presented
classified testimony during a closed session of the proceedings. Â The final
defense witness was an forensic psychologist from Walter Reed Army Medical
Center. Â The government began its rebuttal case at 5:30pm and called five
witnesses, one of which testified telephonically.
During the proceedings, the military judge dismissed two specifications of
violating a lawful regulation. Â The maximum sentence Holcomb could face if
convicted of all charges is 13 years and six months of confinement.
The court was recessed at about 6:15 p.m. The court martial of Sgt. Adam
Holcomb will resume Monday, July 30, 2012, at 8:30 a.m.
