Democratic Muslims Will Vote Their Values in 64 Days
Embracing the spirit of accepting all people, Democratic Muslims unite at the 2012 DNC.

Gus Mansour, a delegate from Linwood, Wa., attended Monday morning's Faith Meeting at the 2012 DNC.
Mansour immigrated to the United States in 1978 and was initially more aligned to the values of the Republican party, but over time he was won over after he saw that the Democratic party included everyone.

"As a Native American and as a Muslim, I was fired up when the President ran the first time because I knew in his heart he had respect for all people," said Mansour. "He restored my dignity and faith in the United States; I was beginning to question what I was doing, and am I included?"
Mansour relayed how residents in Washington state come together beautifully - Muslims, Jews and Christians.

"After September 11th, we had Jewish fellow citizens that sat outside the Mosque for 24 hours to defend the Mosque," said Mansour. "As much as we respect every human being and every Republican, we do not respect those who put down others and exclude minorities or those who attack woman's rights."
Being against abortion, Mansour said he is not going to go back to the old way of the alley, or have women being taken advantage of, he looks forward to moving ahead and respecting women's rights.
While Mansour said he is ashamed to admit that he does not pray five times a day, he does pray every morning and believes it is about what is in his heart.
"I have never learned any hate in the Mosque, I have only learned love," said Mansour. "That reflects how I live and my best friends are Jews and Christians. You cannot even be Muslim without believing in Jesus - it's mentioned in our book.
Jesus is mentioned 25 times in high regard and the Prophet Muhammad is mentioned five times by name in the Quaran shared Mansour.
Rose Hamid, the head of the Muslims of Charlotte population was dressed in her lavender printed Hijab and also attended the Faith Meeting at the DNC.
She estimates the Muslim population in Charlotte to be upwards of 30,000, but that only 12,000 are practicing Muslims. Hamid measured that by the show of attendance at the last Holiday Prayer the group held.
"When you consider the number of people who are practicing Christians, how many of them actually attend church," asked Hamid. "That golden rule of commonality is present in every faith tradition though."
