Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident Identified
Soldier newly assigned to Fort Bragg killed in tragic hit-and-run accident.
A civilian driver has been identified as a person of interest in Saturday's early morning hit-and-run accident that killed a Fort Bragg soldier at the intersection of Bragg Blvd. and Gruber Road.
Sarah A. Rogers, 21, was stopped at a standard sobriety checkpoint set up by Fort Bragg's Military Police, and was later released to her family, but is still being considered a person of interest in the case being investigated.
Pfc. Richard B. Powell, 20, known as Bradley by family and friends, was assigned to the 82nd Sustainment Brigade. The soldier had only been at Fort Bragg for a few days according to a family friend in a Fort Bragg Patch interview. He had told his family that he was going to walk to the store when they last spoke to him.

Family friend Carla Boerst confirmed that the memorial service will be held next week. Boerst said the family has found some closure gaining some insights on the case from the unit chain of command and that they will be traveling to the service next week.
Powell was from Mobile, Ala. and attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and the Supply Specialist Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, Va. His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
