Jack Britt High School Student Brought Gun to School

15-year-old student being held at the Juvenile Detention Center.

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Detectives have charged a 15-year-old Jack Britt High School student with bringing a gun on to the school’s campus on Tuesday morning.

It was not said how, but school officials were alerted to the probability of the possession of the gun, and as a result, the student was removed from the classroom and a search conducted according to Debbie Tanna, spokesman for Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. The student was placed under arrest for the illegal possession of the firearm after the search turned up the weapon.

Sheriff’s Detectives have charged the student with felony possession of a weapon on school property. The student is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center awaiting a first appearance before a District Court Judge.

The incident appears isolated, and there was no prior notice that the student had intended to bring the weapon on to the campus.

There were no injuries reported as a result of this incident, and the school operated on their normal schedule for the remainder of Tuesday.
