Local Man Charged with Possession of Child Porn

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Detectives have charged a Fayetteville man with possession of child pornography.

Franklin Wade Meares, 44, of 4217 Oakmont Circle was taken into custody late Monday afternoon according to Debbie Tanna, Public Information Officer.

Investigators say between July 3, 2012 and September 27, 2012 Meares participated in sharing materials that showed children engaged in sexual activity with adults. Hundreds of photos depicting minors engaged in inappropriate behavior were revealed on Meares’ home computer.

Meares is charged with five counts each of 2^nd degree sexual exploitation of a child and 3^rd degree sexual exploitation of a child. He is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a 50 thousand dollar bond.

Meares will make a first court appearance today in the Cumberland County Detention Center courtroom at 2:30 p.m.
